Don’t panic! Rolling back posts

Learning about WordpressSo you’ve been editing some posts and pages on your website but something has gone wrong: perhaps you published without first previewing how the page would look, or you have just noticed an inaccuracy and you want to revert to an earlier version of the content.

Thankfully, Wordpress keeps track of each revision and allows you to quickly revert to an earlier version.

The Wordpress form for restoring previous edits
Select the relevant page or post as if you want to edit it, and scroll to the bottom of the screen: you should see something similar to the above, a section marked Post Revisions (or Page Revisions if it is a page).

Each post is dated and gives the username of whoever wrote it (or just ‘admin’ if you use a single login). Choose the one you want to reactivate and click on it. It will now offer you a preview of the previous post – it might not look the same as it does when in the text editor, as you will now be able to see some of the HTML code that makes it up – you can now either click on Restore or select an alternative revision to preview.

Thanks to this innovative feature you need never be afraid of breaking the website or making errors, as it is extremely easy to ‘undo’ and restore a previous version of the page or post.
