Uploading and adding photos

Learning about WordpressGood, well written copy will really make your website stand out, however you can improve upon the attention-grabbing nature of your posts and pages if you add a little sparkle with some images.

We will assume that you are already familiar with the process of editing and creating new pages. Thankfully, there is surprisingly little more for you to learn in order to integrate photos and even animations.

Klaus the monkeyLet us imagine that we wish to add a photo of our mascot, Klaus (you can see him on the left!), to one of our pages.

The first thing we have to do is select the relevant page for editing. Next, we need to decide where about within the flow of text we wish to position our image: you should position the text cursor at this point.
Showing the add image button on the edit page/post screen
Slightly above where the text is edited you will see the words Upload/insert and some buttons. The first of these buttons allows you to upload or insert an existing image.

Clicking on this will bring up a new dialogue. You will notice that there are three tabs in this dialogue, From Computer, From URL and Media Library. Let’s quickly run through what each of these means.

From Computer means that you are going to upload an image from your own PC. From URL lets you use a photo that already exists on someone else’s website. Finally, and very usefully, all of the images, movies and sounds that you upload are stored in a special media library. By clicking Media Library you will see a list of these and you can reuse them wherever you want.

You can now describe the image by completing the title and description fields, and, because Wordpress automatically resizes the image for you, you can choose the size you want to insert onto your page (full size, thumbnail etc).

With that done, simply click on the Insert into Post button and, as if by magic, the photo will appear within the text editor box.
